As a child, I always had a great fascination with science, mainly because of the mystery involved. Scientists were detectives, constantly searching for clues and then reasoning them through. Charles Darwin, the Sherlock Holmes of the natural world, interested me most, as he saw evidence in the fossils, plants, animals, and rocks he studied where others saw nothing.
Despite facing immense pressure and opposition, Darwin endured for the sake of science and the good of all humanity.
I wish to pursue the study of science to satisfy my growing passion for knowledge and address the important problems that people face; a degree in Science will help pave my way.
Throughout my studies thus far, I have had the opportunity to study all different types of sciences, but the subjects that have interested me most are Biology and Chemistry. Biology is the key to life, and I am eager to learn more about how life develops and sustains itself. The complexity of the human body has always fascinated me. I am captivated by the-ever developing new scientific discoveries and relish the opportunity to study biology at university level. As I have often wondered how the effects and chemical processes interact with the human body. By studying biology, I will acquire the solid knowledge that will render me fully capable of fulfilling my dream – to become a scientist.
Chemistry presents us with the fundamental and the abstract. None of my other coursework provided quite the stimulation of the chemistry projects and experiments. As a result of my interest in the sciences, I pursued the subject through other means outside of the classroom. Last year, I established an inner-college Chemistry club. Every week students from the surrounding colleges meet, and we discuss special areas of interest within the field of chemistry.
As the club organiser, I set up a trip to a local chemical processing plant, where we could witness first-hand the use of chemistry in an industrial setting.
In addition to my studies I am working part-time in a local store at the customer service desk. This demonstrates that I am able to manage my time successfully and vary my life experience. My main form of relaxation is swimming and drawing and I have been involved in the artwork and designing of several displays, posters and theatre backgrounds.
I am naturally drawn to the sciences. I have studied them, particularly Biology and Chemistry, extensively in school, thus giving me the appropriate academic preparation for the course. I have extended this interest further beyond the classroom, incorporating sciences into my life for more practical experiences.
I look forward to an exciting and successful career in the sciences, hopefully enabling me to contribute to the solution of some of life’s great mysteries.
