據悉，英國早在60年代末期，就協助企業制訂了物流人才的培訓計劃，組織了各類物流專業性的會議。到了70年代，正式組建了全英國管理協會。
英國多功能綜合物流中心體系的建立，對整個歐洲影響很大，也形成了英國綜合性的物流體制的現代化模式。英國開設有物流專業的大學不少，但有些學校把物流專業劃分為管理類課程，而有些學校則將其納為工程類專業。
三大類物流專業
Transport：對將來在港口、海運、空運方面的就業會有所幫助;
Logistics / supply chain：對進入物流公司有一定的好處;
Operations / supply chain：就業面更為廣闊，往往不限行業、不限公司性質，但港口、海運、空運方面就很難插足。
根據專業設置的出發點，把該專業分為三類：
1、管理學
如果你傾向于管理學，就要選在這個領域頗有建樹的學校讀了。這類的學習主要涉及的是管理理念，管理方法和工具，案例分析等。較易入門。(曼大，利物浦，紐卡)
2、工程學
3、統計學
對建模和數學感興趣的同學，不妨考慮有工程學或者統計學傾向的供應鏈專業(Lancaster，Cardiff，Cambridge，Cass，在數學和建模方面在學術界聲譽不錯)
